Love Finds You When You're Not Looking

By Mimi Tanner

The best relationships come into your life when you're not looking for them.

You're not looking for them because you're "engaged" in what you're doing.

This is a great way to fall in love.

For example, when you're friends first, you aren't self-conscious!

There is nothing quite like that dizzying moment when you recognize that your friendship has become much more than a friendship. It's unforgettable.

Another reason you may not be looking for love is because you think you're "done with" being in love. I hear that one a lot!

Here's an email I received:

"Mimi, For much of the time I have been getting the emails from you, I have not been in a relationship, by choice. I was not looking for anyone. My life has been pretty busy.

"I am an older student in college, working toward my degree in Psychology. I thought I should focus on that without the distraction of a relationship.

"However, I did reach a point where I realized my life was out of balance. All work and no play was burning me out.

"I still was not looking for someone, but someone came into my life, through my church, and we became friends. I didn't go into the friendship with any expectations.

"When he asked me out on a date, I accepted. We are now talking about getting married.

"My advice to women is to be open-minded and don't shut out the possibility of dating someone who is already a friend."

Thank you, D.! Great loves can begin as great friends. And it's wonderful.
